About four months ago, OCZ launches Z-series with 80 Plus Gold, which are to set theirselves apart due to a high efficiency. Recently the manufacturer reported that the series, of which the two top models feature 80 Plus Gold certificates, are ready to hit the shelves, after nearly two years of development.

The 80 Plus Gold certification of the Z1000 and Z850 means that these power supplies have an efficiency of over 90% under a typical (half) load. According to the 80 Plus test report, the Z1000 has an 88,23% efficiency at 1/5th load, 90,93 at half load and 89,20% at full load. The Z850 features efficiencies of respectively 88,04%, 90,63% and 89,06%. The continuous power of these supplies is 1000 and 850 Watt, with peak wattages of 1100 and 940 Watt.

The Gold-certified power supplies are designed using the ATX standard and feature a single +12V rail that is capable of putting out a current of 83 A (Z1000) or 71 A (Z850). The PSU is cooled down by a 135mm ball-bearing fan. Both supplies are nVidia SLI-certified and will also be available in a modular version.

OCZ will release two more models in the Z-series, the Z550 and Z650. These supplies sports the 80 Plus Silver certificate and have three +12V rails. The Z550 and Z650 are also nVidia SLI-certified. No modular versions are planned for these models.

The power supplies come with a five-year warranty plan. At the moment of writing, American webshop newegg.com has the supplies listed at 300 USD for the Z1000M, 290 for the Z1000, 240 for the Z850M and 220 for the Z850. (hardware.info)
